I spent quite a bit of time talking to Terry Sherman. They operated the ranch and they raised cattle there and they had a phenomenal uh diversity of encounters.

The previous owners, Kenneth and Edith Meyers, had owned it since the 1930s, but the place had been empty for a while, leaving it a bit rund down.
Despite this, the Shermans were ready to take on the challenge and fix the place up. But as soon as they started moving in, they noticed some pretty weird things. For starters, the contract they signed when buying the place had this odd rule saying they had to ask the Meyers family before they could dig anywhere on the property. Then when they actually got to the house, it was like a fortress. Everything was bolted down.
There were bars on the windows and even signs that guard dogs used to be around.
These strange setups made the Sherman scratch their heads, but they chocked it up to the old couple’s quirks and got on with settling in. It didn’t take long before things started to get really strange. One day, Terry, Gwyn, the kids, and Tererry’s dad were all outside when they saw this huge doglike animal coming their way from a distance. At first, they thought it might be a wolf, but as it got closer, they realized this was no ordinary wolf. This thing was huge, like as tall as the grown men there, and it had a beefy build, gray fur, and bright blue eyes that didn’t seem normal at all. Weirdly enough, it was calm and even let the family pet it. But the calm didn’t last long. Out of nowhere, this creature charged at their corral and attacked one of the calves that got too close. The Shermans couldn’t believe what they were seeing. This creature they had just been petting turned hostile in a flash, clamping down on the calf. This frightening moment was just the start of a string of freaky and unexplainable incidents that would happen while they stayed at the ranch, eventually adding to its infamous reputation. Terry and his dad tried to fend off the beast to save their calf, but nothing they did seemed to work. The creature was unfazed by their attempts to fight it off. In desperation, Terry yelled for his son to bring him his Colt 357 Magnum pistol. Things quickly went from bad to nightmare level. Terry shot the wolf point blank, but it was like the bullets didn’t even register. The creature stayed calm, completely ignoring the gunshots. After firing a couple more times, the wolf finally let go of the calf, but it did so slowly, turning back to look at the family with those chilling blue eyes. Despite being hit, the wolf didn’t show any signs of pain or injury. Panicking, Terry asked for his 306 rifle, a gun he normally used for hunting bigger animals like elk. He shot at the wolf again, sure that he hit it because he was so close.
But just like before, the wolf acted like nothing happened. A second shot managed to knock a chunk of flesh off the animal, but it just didn’t care. As the Shermans tried to move on from that scary moment, the ranch had more strange things waiting that would make them question everything. The wolf that vanished without a trace. The wolf then started to back off slowly, keeping its eerie gaze on the family as it moved away. Overwhelmed and confused, Terry felt he had to follow it. He and his son went after the creature, tracking it for almost a mile. But then the tracks just stopped. The ground was soft, yet there was no sign of the wolf beyond a certain point, it was as if it had just vanished. As the evening drew in and their search turned up nothing more, Terry decided it was time to head back.
Despite all the questions swirling in his head, he tried to push the unsettling experience to the back of his mind. But the quiet they hoped for wasn’t coming their way. And when these objects were eventually found, they were often in places that made no sense, such as the post digger turning up 20 ft high in a tree. Although much of the lore surrounding skinwalkers is kept private and is a sensitive topic for many, the information that is shared is quite unsettling. Skinwalkers are depicted as malevolent beings who practice dark magic, obtaining their powers through horrendous acts such as the elimination and deprivation of a relative. In their true form, they appear as gaunt, decayed versions of humans with eyes that glow like embers in the dark. They are endowed with extraordinary physical abilities and a deep connection to malevolent spirits, allowing them to cast curses and spread disease. Their most notorious ability is their capacity to shapeshift. often transforming into animals such as bears, birds, or wolves. But the weird events weren’t over yet. What happened next would pull the Shermans even deeper into the unknown, showing them their troubles were just starting.

In 1911, the area was known for a series of other peculiar events, adding to its reputation as a place where the line between the normal and the paranormal seems to blur. Initially skeptical and hopeful for a quiet life, the Shermans found themselves caught in the midst of circumstances that would forever alter their understanding of the world. An article in the Sun Advocate highlighted strange thunderlike noises echoing across the Uenta basin, which unsettled the early settlers. These noises were heard day and night throughout the year and had been ongoing for years. Initially believed to be the result of geological shifts along the Uenta fault, this explanation did little to alleviate the growing anxiety among the locals. By the 1950s, these odd sounds were accompanied by an increase in strange events. Sightings of UFOs, cattle mutilations, and even encounters with extraterrestrial beings. The area gained notoriety for these incidents, which also included sightings of Bigfoot and manifestations of ghostly activities. The 1970s witnessed a significant rise in these strange occurrences, solidifying Uintent County’s reputation as one of the leading places in the nation for unexplained phenomena, a reputation it maintains to this day. As Winter’s chill tightened its grip on the ranch, Terry Sherman grew increasingly troubled by the ongoing disturbances. Determined to protect his family and their home, he began to patrol his property at night.
Often, he reported seeing strange lights moving in the dark. usually catching just brief glimpses from a distance. But one particularly cold winter night, he encountered something far more disturbing. Terry saw a craft unlike any he had ever witnessed before. A craft similar to the one they initially thought was an RV sitting on their property. Inside the craft, she could see a figure about 7 ft tall standing in a doorway illuminated by light. The figure was dressed in a black uniform and headgear, seemingly staring directly at her. Frightened, Gwyn quickly shut the blinds. The next morning, when she and Terry went to investigate, all they found were unusually large footprints, confirming that something had indeed been there. These events were just the beginning of a long series of bizarre and frightening occurrences that would continue to haunt the Sherman family during their tenure at Skinwalker Ranch.
The Sherman’s experiences at Skinwalker Ranch grew increasingly perplexing and troubling over time. One of the most common and unsettling sights they witnessed were large glowing orange objects in the sky. Each member of the family saw these objects with Terry observing them dozens of times. In the same spot every time, these unusual shapes would just hang quietly over a bunch of cottonwood trees a little walk from their place about a mile out. It wasn’t clear if this wolf thing was linked to the other weird stuff, but soon it became pretty obvious that whatever was behind these events had started taking a scary interest in Tererry’s cows. After a big snowstorm, Terry found one of his cows was missing.
Worried, he followed the cow’s tracks through the snow, which led him to a clearing where they just stopped dead, as if the cow had been lifted straight up into the air. No signs of any predators or a struggle, just a sudden end to the tracks. Despite a lot of looking, the cow was never found. This was just the start of what would be a really troubling trend. Just over that winter, five more cows would just disappear, gone without any clue. The ranch, which was once a hopeful spot for a quiet and successful farming life, turned into the center of weird and increasingly scary events. When spring rolled around in 1995, the strangeness at Skinwalker Ranch kicked up a notch, especially around Terry Sherman’s cows.
Come April, Terry started finding his cows dead under really gruesome circumstances. The cows were cut up with a precision that made no sense with big chunks of them removed almost like it was done surgically. What was even more chilling was there was no blood at the scene. Like whoever or whatever did this was being super careful about not making a mess. These horrific scenes kept happening through the spring and the next months, always right after strange yellow lights were seen on the property, usually during bad weather. The day after seeing those lights, Terry often found another cow dead, cut up in that same careful way. He also noticed that the dead cows didn’t rot as fast as they should, which just added to the weirdness of everything happening. One time, Terry found a strange brown gel-like thing near one of the dead cows. It was cold and disappeared before he could really check it out, which only made things feel more off and unsettling. The financial hit from losing these cows, each worth a lot of money, started really threatening Terry’s way of life. But the ranch wasn’t just a place where these awful cattle mutilations happened. Suddenly, big holes about a foot deep and several feet wide would show up where those flying lights had been spotted the night before, as if tons of dirt had just been scooped out. There were also weird circles found in the grass, making the whole thing even more baffling. One of the creepiest things about the ranch were these glowing orbs that kept showing up.
