Josh Hunts For The Treasure-Laden Lost Spanish Fleet Of 1715! | Expedition Unknown

what’s the most valuable hidden treasure I’ve ever searched for it’s a question I get asked all the time after all I’ve trecked through Scotland on the hunt for Rebel gold crisscrossed Russia to find the glittering Amber Room and braved the caves of Jordan for the riches of the Copper Scroll but the most valuable prize of all is not only real it’s right here in the United States the Lost Spanish Fleet of 1715 it’s a story as rich as its subject King Philip v he’s reigning over a nearly bankrupt Spanish Empire and is in desperate need of cash and so he orders 12 treasure ships to sail from his colonies in the new world the fleet embarks from Havana Laden with silver gold jewelry and artifacts it’s a cargo that is likely worth billions several days later a violent hurricane destroys 11 of the ships scattering their Bounty beneath the waves and
along the beaches of Central Florida an area now aptly named the Treasure Coast millions of dollars in riches have been recovered here over the years and that’s just a fraction of what’s out there and now there’s word of a major new development the possible discovery of a previously unidentified ship from The Lost Fleet if true it would be nothing short of History making I’m driving down the Eastern side of Florida toward the town of sebas Bastion just offshore here are a collection of barrier islands sand bars and reefs and over the centuries these hazards have consumed literally hundreds of ships and it’s earned this area a nickname it’s known as the Treasure Coast six of the 11 shipwrecks from the 1715 Fleet had been located leaving the whereabouts of the remaining five completely unknown there were 12 ships in the 1715 Fleet all but one sank and of the 11 that went down six have been discovered but that means there
are five ships out there that modern Searchers have never found however right after the fleet was lost the Spanish launched their own Salvage operation keeping meticulous records which were stored in several archives now I’ve learned that a dedicated researcher has just gained access to their location meeting him though will be a bit tricky he’s not in Florida or even in the US Cuba the launching place of the 1715 Fleet and a one-time Spanish Colonial stronghold my cab driver drops me off at the National Archives of Cuba no American film crew has ever been allowed inside that is until right now that’s thanks to historian John Deb who has lobbied the archives to pull any documents related to The Lost Fleet we’re joined by Cesar Alonso sansen from the Cuban Ministry of archaeology Cesar opens the files and flips through pages that are yellowed with age and those are the ones in good
condition as we flip through the documents Cesar sees something that stops us in our tracks this document is a document that authorize one ship to join the fleet La FR Sant this is the first time today that I see this name santarita so that’s the name of one of the 11 ships it was named the santarita but he changed the name to Mari Getta a boat that has never been found never been found that’s something new to me I’ve never seen this before so it’s very exciting we’re rewriting history here yes we are well perhaps not rewriting it as much as revealing it as the hours tick by Jon is able to learn even more from the Aging docu ments on file here one of the things we’ve learned is that two ships that were found by the Spanish were never found in modern time so we know that they found two ships that we haven’t found exactly if that’s the case
why do you think that those two wrecks have not been rediscovered there are some indications that two ships may be much further north uh than people have looked for that’s a huge piece of information it’s going to make it a lot easier to find them the six wrecks that we know about are all in a Rel relatively tight group along the Treasure Coast but this new documentation suggests that some of the ships may have sunk much farther north than anyone ever suspected back in the sunshine state I join a group of expert divers who are putting this new knowledge to the test Greg bounds is a search and Salvage expert who’s worked with the great Mel Fisher himself now he’s determined to use new technology to unmask the location of the rest of the 1715 Fleet I meet Greg and colleague Terry Wilder aboard the Big Easy Terry how are you nice to meet you well how’s it looking
man it’s looking good we’re ready to go well if you’re ready I’m ready all right let’s hit it let’s do it boys come on okay so this is uh I believe uh a Hellfire missile is that correct this is a cesium magnetometer what it does is it senses the Earth’s magnetic field and any iron Ferris metal that’s laying on the bottom like cannons anchors or some ballast Stones it measures that change in the magnetic field got it we’ll tow this behind the bat as we get moving we will deploy it off the stern of the boat and we want to keep it as close to the bottom as possible we got a Target here got a nice Target right here looks like a big hit or not it looks like a pretty good siiz Target too great we finally get a hit on the magnetometer then another one here we’re
coming up on another Target too as look at that and another another one right there yeah okay so we Mark that and we keep going back and for these lines just keep going back and forth got it before long we’ve triangulated an area in which to search with this section of the coast prone to storms and wave action visibility is typically bad what are we looking for metal anything metal and Greg gets one what is it what have you got it’s a cannon it’s a freaking Cannon holy how big is it it’s the right side for the fleet spish oh my God Amazing Greg ties a buoy to the cannon with a GPS marker so he can come back and fully excavate the site then we use every second of our remaining bottom time to scan the surrounding area I’ve got hit on the metal detector but they’re deep me too we got to get back here and D between the
cannon and the other buried debris there is every reason to believe that we’ve just landed on one of the ships from the 1715 Fleet we did it man we found a cannon good job man awesome okay Josh start scanning around this area you got it each sweep of the metal detector sends up a cloud of sediment completely obscuring our surroundings oh got AE right here we got something right here now that we’ve located a Target it’s time for the Iron Maiden to rock dver to top side go ahead fire it up we’re going to start blowing at 500 RPMs all right Josh hang on it’s going to blow this whole area out be careful copy that brck wash is coming down oh there it is oh my God it just clears everything out look at that it’s literally just dusting off the entire SE floor oh my word look at that that’s
wood did we just find the ship I mean look at it that’s wood this Timber may be a historic find part of the concepion rediscovered after 300 years and it looks like more of the wreck is buried beneath the sand Josh to top th keep hitting it with that blower increasing to 600 RPMs we’re at 600 now oh my word look at this this is a huge piece of Timber with the sand cleared away we can see the extent of this piece of wreckage spanning more than 20 ft across it looks like it could have been part of a deck or Hull and it certainly seems big enough to have come from a 100 foot long gallion like the concepion what is this is this metal that’s definitely iron what do you think this is a a pin of some kind absolutely it could be a deck pin it could be a ke pin
there’s a million pins on these ships unbelievable now we’ve got one of them
