Up the dynamic of American Pickers was irrevocably altered when season 27 debuted in early July. Over a year after Frank Fritz’s passing, even if it was inevitable that the series would change without him, Mike Wolf is still at the forefront. Nevertheless, a major factor in the show’s initial attraction was the special relationship he and Frank had.
Unfortunately, though, since Frank left, the show hasn’t gained any traction. The ratings have been steadily dropping with 708,000 viewers. Season 26 concluded on a positive note. However, the American Picker season 27 premiere was a complete failure, attracting just 390,000 viewers, the largest decline in the show’s history.
Danielle Colby appears to understand why. Colby, who prefers the pronouns they slashed them, recently thought about how the production and the lives of the performers were affected by Fritz’s passing.
“We miss Frank Boy. His laughter is missed. His humor is missed,” KBY told Newsweek. “I believe that the most significant aspect of his personality that truly held us together and kept us on the same page was his sense of humor. And it was, ‘Man, you have a keen sense of humor.’ An extremely clever man.”
They also mentioned how Fritz’s laid-back and endearing nature brought the whole cast and crew together. It was challenging enough to see the deceased reality star leave the program as a result of his health problems, but his co-stars are missing him more than ever now that he is no longer there.
“I miss those rare moments where he was emotionally vulnerable and would give me a hug or, you know, call up and ask questions or ask for advice.”
They continued, “I miss the times when he could really connect with me on a personal level. Frank is loved and missed. Great loss. This is a huge loss for the Quad Cities community. The world is a huge loss, a tremendously large loss for us.”
As the program goes on, newcomers like Robert Wolf, Wolf’s brother, and Colby has acknowledged that the relationship feels different, and American Pickers is still figuring out how to adjust to it.
Given that Colby had worked for Wolf long before American Pickers became a reality TV phenomenon, Colby claimed that their relationship with Wolf keeps them grounded.
“He is among my closest pals. That’s not something that will ever change in my opinion. Our families are too closely related. I mean, at this point, there’s no divorcing from one another for sure,” adding their relationship is very sibling coded.
Colby stated, “What linked Mike and I from the beginning is we both are big collectors of what we love. I adore burlesque history and so that’s what I collect, but Mike also likes burlesque history and so he collects a little bit of it too.”
Colby, who has been passionate about this project for more than 25 years, finally inaugurated their burlesque museum in June after months of anticipation. The museum encourages body positivity while honoring the heritage of burlesque.
Wolf was instrumental in making that dream a reality, which added significance to the accomplishment.
