Mike Wolf, the co-host and creator of American Pickers, has spoken candidly about losing his co-host Frank Fritz, who passed away in September of last year. Wolf revealed specifics about Fritz’s back surgery and addiction during the talk. In addition, Wolf shared a few lines from his memories and described how he attempted to assist him when American Pickers debuted in 2010.

Mike Wolf and Frank Fritz co-hosted the show. Wolf and Fritz traveled around America in the History Channel series looking for antiques to purchase from collectors. The last time Fritz appeared on American Pickers was in March 2020. The next year, he was formally dismissed from the show.

Wolf recently discussed Fritz’s termination from the show in an interview with People. He also talked about his previous co-host’s battle with addiction. Fritz had had surgery after injuring his back while moving items around his house. Wolf revealed, as Wolf pointed out, the timing was particularly risky. It was like the perfect storm with that time off and him having surgery, Wolf said. When he developed an opiate addiction, everything changed.

Wolf made it clear during the conversation that he believed he didn’t have the right to tell Fritz’s story, claiming that was Fritz’s story, but he added: “I feel that I have the right to share the personal story of how I and many others struggled to deal with what was happening in my life.” Additionally, Wolf claimed that he attempted to organize an intervention on Fritz’s behalf.

“I remember running into him like a month later,” he said. “I asked him how he was doing, and he said that he was simply going to manage everything by himself. ‘I’m fine,’ he said. ‘I’m all right, no, I’m all right.’ After about a month, he disappeared.”

Wolf claimed to have never ever given up on Fritz and to have attempted to get him into treatment. “Finally,” he said, “it was really difficult to watch Frank do some of the things that he was doing.”

The production demanded negative drug testing, which had an effect on the show as well. According to Wolf, the network ultimately decided what the show would accomplish. “They simply say, ‘Listen, we need to move on. We must continue with this,'” Wolf said. “I felt conflicted about doing that, and we were merely attempting to choose our course of action.”

Wolf went on to say that losing Fritz was like losing a brother. “It wasn’t easy for Fritz to leave the show,” as Wolf revealed. “In many respects, I was simply left to fend for myself. I could complete his sentences, he could complete my phrases.” Wolf added that there was discussion about Fritz potentially returning to the program; however, following a stroke in 2022, he came to the realization that it wasn’t ever going to happen.

Finally, Wolf used a few words to describe his former co-host to wrap up the discussion. “He was a very lovely person who, to be honest with you, I don’t know what our lives would have been like if there had never been a show,” he said.

Wolf says, “All I want is for people to be aware of his identity.”

Fans had followed Frank’s journey on screen with Mike Wolf for over a decade, rooting for their dynamic duo as they traveled across the country in search of hidden treasures. But behind the scenes, a different story was unfolding—one that no one ever expected.

In an exclusive tell-all, Mike Wolf, Frank’s longtime friend and co-star, is finally opening up about the shocking truth that few knew: Frank Fritz was battling a serious drug addiction. The revelation has left fans stunned, with many now questioning everything they thought they knew about the American Pickers duo.

But what led to Frank’s battle with addiction? How did it impact his life, his career, and his relationship with Mike Wolf? And most importantly, what do these revelations mean for the legacy of American Pickers and Frank Fritz’s untold story? The truth is far more complicated than anyone could have imagined.

For years, Frank Fritz seemed like the charming, quirky antique hunter everyone loved. He was the perfect foil to Mike Wolf’s more serious and business-minded persona, and the chemistry between the two was undeniable. Fans adored their adventures, and Frank’s eccentric personality became a key part of the show’s success. But behind the laughter and camera-ready moments, there were signs that all was not well.

For those who were close to Frank, it was clear that something was happening—something that couldn’t be hidden forever. Mike Wolf has now admitted that he knew Frank was struggling with addiction for years, but it wasn’t something that could be easily addressed on national television.

In a heartfelt and emotional interview, Mike Wolf opens up about the depth of Frank’s battle with addiction. According to Mike, Frank’s struggles began long before they became co-stars on American Pickers. While the exact details of Frank’s addiction remain unclear, Mike explained that Frank had been battling demons for much of his life, with drugs becoming a major part of the equation in recent years.

“I’ve known Frank for a long time, and I always tried to help him, but addiction is a powerful thing,” Mike shared in a raw and emotional statement. “There were times when he wasn’t ready to get the help he needed, and that’s the hardest part. You can’t force someone to want to get better; they have to do it for themselves.”

Mike admits that he didn’t always understand the full extent of Frank’s addiction, especially as it began to take a toll on his personal life and work ethic. Frank’s absence from recent seasons of American Pickers raised questions, but Mike says the pressures of Frank’s addiction led to his increasing disappearance from the show.

“I could see that he was slipping away,” Mike continued. “There were days when he just couldn’t get out of bed, and it broke my heart. Frank was always there for me when I needed him, but when it came to him asking for help, he wasn’t ready. That’s what made it so painful.”

As American Pickers grew in popularity, the world continued to see the two stars as a dynamic pair, searching for treasures and revealing the hidden history of America’s forgotten relics. But what fans didn’t know was that behind the scenes, Frank’s addiction was beginning to affect his professional life in ways no one could.

The pressure of filming the show, combined with Frank’s personal demons, caused tension between the two longtime friends. “We spent a lot of time on the road together, and I could see how the lifestyle was taking its toll on him,” Mike explained. “The late nights, the travel, the constant need to perform—it wasn’t easy for him, and as much as I wanted to help, I couldn’t do it alone.”

Fans may have noticed that Frank’s appearances on American Pickers became more sporadic over the years. What many didn’t realize is that Frank’s drug use was directly linked to his inconsistent work schedule. At the height of his addiction, he struggled to maintain his role on the show, and Mike often found himself carrying the weight of their partnership.

“Frank was still Frank, the same guy I met all those years ago, but addiction changed him. It wasn’t the person I knew,” Mike said with tears in his eyes. “And it wasn’t just about American Pickers; it was about Frank—the person he was hurting in ways none of us could see.”

In Mike’s candid interview, he opened up about the toll drugs took on his friend’s personal life as well. “Frank was a fighter, but addiction made him lose so much,” Mike shared. “He lost relationships, opportunities, and most tragically, his own happiness. He never felt like he was enough, and that’s what the addiction told him over and over again.”

As the addiction deepened, Frank’s personal relationships deteriorated, and he became increasingly isolated from the people who cared about him. Fans who admired his bubbly personality and quick wit were shocked to learn that this was just a facade—one that masked the deep emotional pain Frank was hiding inside.

But despite all the struggles, Mike continues to hold out hope that Frank could have turned things around. “I’ll always remember the good times,” Mike said, his voice shaking. “Frank was a great guy, a true friend, and a brilliant picker. I’ll never forget the laughs we shared, the stories we told, and the treasures we found. But addiction is a dark thing, and it took that away from him.”

Frank’s tragic passing has left fans heartbroken and filled with questions. What happens now to the future of American Pickers? Will Mike continue on without his longtime friend? While Mike has assured fans that the show will continue, he’s made it clear that Frank’s absence will always be felt.

“Frank and I were a team and will always be a team,” Mike said. “But the show was never just about the antiques; it was about the bond we shared. It’s something that can never be replaced. Frank is irreplaceable.”

As American Pickers moves forward, Mike has expressed his desire to honor Frank’s legacy, whether through the preservation of Frank’s incredible finds or sharing their story with fans. Mike is committed to making sure that Frank’s impact on the world of picking is never forgotten.

Frank Fritz’s struggle with drug addiction is a painful reminder of how even the most beloved figures can be hiding personal battles. It’s a call for awareness, understanding, and compassion for those facing similar struggles. While Frank’s story is a tragic one, it also serves as a powerful lesson about the dangers of addiction and the importance of reaching out for help when we need it.

Mike Wolf’s candid revelations about Frank’s addiction are a heartbreaking but necessary part of the story. As fans, we now understand that the man we saw on our TV screens was fighting much more than just the hunt for antiques. He was fighting for his life.
