The Curse of Oak Island: Testing for Gold Treasure (Season 6) | History
MARTY: I’m, I’m going tng t
th
that it is, it is pre-18.
NARRATOR: Or: Marty Lay Ls
his son Aln Alex and hnd d
and businessness partner Craig Tesr
as they travel 50 miles north east
to Saint Mary’s Univy
in the city of Halifax.
Thanks, Craigraig.
NARRATOR: Eager to find out
if the antique brooch
was discovered on L1
is, in fact, partially
made of gold.
Dr. Brosseau: Nice to see you, Chr.
Welcome down to
the microscope lab.
Xiang: Hi.
Nice to see you again.
Chr.: Nice seeing you.
Xiang: Hi, hi, how are you?
We have something here.
I think you’re going to
find it quite interesting.
A piece of jewelry.
And I’ll let–
NARRATOR: Dr. Christriu
is an associate professor
of chemistry with
expertise in the field
of electrochemistry, as well
as the study of metals
and their chemical composition.
Today, she is joined by
colleague Dr. Xiang.
Christriu: Very nice.
MARTY: Pretty, isn’t it?
CHRISTA: Yeah.
MARTY: It was found this year.
CHRISTA: The brooch?
MARTY: And we’ve had it looked
by a gemologist already.
And it did appear there
were places that had–
CHRISTA: OK.
Where did you guys find it?
MARTY: Kind of to the
western end of the…
CHRISTA: It’s in
really good condition.
Have a look, and we’ll
see what your machine says.
NARRATOR: Using a high
scanning electron microscope,
doctors Brosseau
and Xiang will be
able to magnify the item
up to tens of thousands
of times its actual size.
They will also be able to examine its chemical
composition and determine
whether it’s made of gold
or any other precious material.
CHRISTA: Should be good.
So the dark area here
is pure copper.
That’s interesting.
But the bright area?
MARTY: Yeah.
CHRISTA: Gold.
MARTY: That’s gold.
Xiang: Well, how about that?
Gary can go do his gold dance.
He found some gold.
MARTY: Yeah, I guess
I’d have to say
that’s the first piece
of verified gold found
on the island.
ALEX: It’s a first
for us, right?
MARTY: It’s a first for us, yeah.
I think this would be
considered actual treasure.
MARTY: Well, here’s the thing.
We’ve found treasure
on Oak Island.
ALEX: Yeah.
MARTY: Woo-hoo-hoo!
And we’ve proven it here
in this lab too.
MARTY: So that’s pretty cool.
It’s not bad.
I mean, yeah.
That’s a pretty good find.
[chuckles]
MARTY: The brooch that
was found this year
is motivating and
exciting because
it’s a real piece of treasure.
You just can’t deny it.
It’s a piece of treasure
in the elaborate series
found on Oak Island.
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
There’s more treasure that
awaits us this year.
Now we need to bring in
the motherlode.
MARTY: Thank you very much,
as always.
Xiang: Congratulations,
a pleasure.
MARTY: I’m going to think
up all kinds of things
to put in that machine.
NARRATOR: Returning to the island later that day,
Marty Lagina calls a meeting
with his brother Rick and members of the team.
MARTY: Guys, I am freshly back
from Saint Mary’s University.
Craig and Alex and I
went up there, and
I shouldn’t be excited
about this, but really,
in a sense…
MARTY: But I am, because–
DAVID: This little
gem has gold on it.
[chuckles]
MARTY: We have found
first gold on Oak Island.
DAVID: I want more gold than that.
MARTY: Well, small victories, right?
NARRATOR: For Rick, Marty, and their team,
the discovery of an
old piece of golden jewelry
is a momentous development
in the 223-year history
of the Oak Island treasure hunt.
It is also a major step
forward in their quest
to prove that something
of even greater value
may have been buried
here centuries ago.
MARTY: So we have this brooch,
which could be older than we ever
thought.
We have the lead cross,
not mined in North America.
MARTY: So these artifacts are
taking us back farther in time
than I ever thought
we would see here.
MARTY: We’re finding answers.
Way back.
Way back.
NARRATOR: As far as Marty,
Rick, and their team
are concerned, as close
as they are to getting answers,
the 223-year-old Oak Island treasure
hunt has only just begun.
MARTY: So, guys, you’re up.
You all have all the
information.
We’ve discussed where
this might lead.
I think we should go.
Let’s go.
