We’re trying to find out
who built the structures
that were uncovered on Lot 5.
So, finds like fasteners
and possible iron tools
can prove to be very valuable
once we study them in the lab.

GARY:
Well, mate, we got some
decent-sounding flags to dig.
I love to see flags
in the ground.
What I like about this is,
it’s so close to that feature.
-(metal detector beeping)
-GARY: A little bit choppy,
but you never know.
Just there, mate.
-All right.
-GARY: Hi, Marty.
I’m with the Internal
Revenue Service.
What are you guys doing here?
We’re making money.
-GARY: Yeah.
-(Marty laughs)
Perfect answer.
I guess I’m appropriate, then.

GARY:
Well, we put flags in,
so we had to clear it.
I came for luck, Rick.
Okay.
-He does a nice job, doesn’t he?
-Yeah.

MARTY:
Well, digging on Oak Island
is like the hardest
thing conceivable.

GARY:
One thing I’ve noticed,
when we get close
to this feature,
is, all the metal is deep.
Really deep.

MARTY:
Mm.
Ah, definitely a target there.
Yeah, definitely.
(beeping)
It’s there.
Look at that, that’s a big
old square-shaped fastener.
Been there awhile,
whatever the hell it is.

RICK:
And there could be
something else.

GARY:
Yeah, definitely big enough
to mask a good target.
I’m going to put it in a bag.
Roundness. We want roundness…
-Yeah, we definitely do.
-…not squareness.
Okay.
(beeping)

MARTY:
Oh.
(beeping)

GARY:
Yeah, we have got
something else there.
That’s crazy deep, isn’t it?
Wow, is that it?
Look at that.
What the heck is that?
Yeah, that is…
I think that’s it.
A great big clump of iron.
Look how thick it is.
-(rapid beeping)
-GARY: Yeah.
Any time you hear that,
that rapid vibration,
that means it’s iron.

MARTY:
That’s big.
Is it real heavy, too?
Yeah, it is heavy.
Oh, geez, I guess.
So I wonder
what the heck that’s off.
-Good job, Rick.
-GARY: What is it?
That’s CT material,
that’s for sure.
-Yep, CT scanner.
-You gonna recheck the hole?
Oh, yeah, definitely.
I’ll put that in that bag.

RICK:
Solving the mystery
is all about
connecting the dots.
Dang, that’s a big one.

RICK:
Well, we certainly have
some very interesting dots
at this point.
The trade token,
ancient Roman coins.
I think there are
some very good clues
as to what may
have happened on Oak Island
that are still
underground on Lot 5,
and we’re nowhere near done.
I think there’s more yet
to be revealed.

All right, good digging, chaps.
-One more before
we lose daylight.
-Okay.
One more shot at glory.

MARTY:
I like that.
Still choppy.
Just there, mate.
There’s so much iron
in here, mate.
Sometimes it throws
good signals off.

MARTY:
That’s a plug.
Geez!
Record.
All right, let’s see
if it’s still there.
-MARTY: It’s got to be there.
-(beeping)
-That’s good. That’s good.
-Yeah.

We know where it is.
It’s deeper.
-Everything’s deep on Lot 5.
-Yeah.

GARY:
It’s got to be old.
There.
See if you’ve moved it.
(beeping)
You might’ve got it out.
(beeping)
Oh, definitely here.
(steady tone)
Come on. It’s this.
Almost blade-like, the way
it goes down– it’s thick
and it comes down at that angle.
And it’s got that edge that…
looks like
it was put on purpose.
It’s what it reminds me of,
some kind of
-chopping tool.
-RICK: It does. Yeah.
Well, armies need food.

GARY:
Yep, for sure, mate.
Okay, I’ll bag this,
and we’ll see if there’s
anything else in this hole.

MARTY:
I am a bit surprised
that there are
so many interesting
things on Lot 5.
Some of these things
might tell us the story…
No, that was it.
…after they go through our
various scientific analyses.
So, yeah, the hope is
that these are puzzle pieces
that help explain what
happened on this island,
that’s the hope.

Well, look, we didn’t
hit gold, Gary.
We didn’t get to see
the Drayton gold dance,
but we got some things
that are going to

-Yeah.
That’s the only way we
are going to see what they are.
All right, grab this one
and we’ll get off to the lab.
-MARTY: Okay. Let’s go.
-GARY: All right.
