Kate Chastain Shows Off Her DIY Home Update and the Amusing Detail on Her Front Gate

Kate Chastain’s front gate design might be a little too on-brand. Why? Well, let’s rewind a bit.

The Below Deck alum took to Instagram this week, saying she had found a holiday wreath abandoned by the previous homeowners. And while many people would’ve simply discarded the piece, Kate decided to zhuzh it up with some Florida flair and display it on the gate to her driveway.

How Kate Chastain elevated her home’s “antique gate”
“Previous home owner left a Christmas wreath in the garage so I added some palm frond trimmings,” she captioned the Story. “I’m obsessed.”

The photo showed the twig wreath adorned with large leaves in different foliage stages. It was a stunning, rustic look that was perfect for the fast-approaching fall season.

Although the wreath was the focus of the initial photo, one couldn’t help but notice the gate’s… uh, interesting rod pattern. Beneath the wreath was a very phallic-looking design that evoked memories of Kate’s penis-shaped rocketship-shaped blanket fold from Below Deck Season 2.

“Also sometimes I think my antique gate looks like it has a ‘rocket ship’ design,” she wrote in a subsequent post, “but I’m trying to rebrand.”

The Story Behind Kate Chastain’s Risqué Towel Art

Kate’s “rocket ship” blanket is widely considered one of the most iconic stunts in Below Deck history. In Season 2, Episode 4 (2014), Kate got back at a difficult charter guest by leaving some “towel art” on his bed. She had folded a blanket in the shape of a penis, but cheekily insisted it was intended to look like an spacecraft.

“Did you have anything to do with that penis on the bed?” Chef Ben Robinson asked Kate.

“I made a rocketship. I don’t know why you say it’s that. It’s a rocketship,” she replied. “The space program is so strong where I’m from. They’ve been going to Mars, but I have a feeling they’re gonna be going to Uranus.”

Kate expanded on the prank in an episode confessional, admitting it was a passive-aggressive but amusing move.

“Guests like this definitely make me think that I have spent too much time in this industry,” she explained. “It was a moment of genius. Rage-filled genius.”

Kate announced her retirement from yachting back in 2020, after more than 10 years in the industry. She now lives in Melbourne Beach, Florida, where she is raising her 2-year-old son, Sullivan Cay.
