The Curse of Oak Island: An Unbelievable Find in the Spoils Pile (Season 6) | History
NARRATOR: As a new day dawns on Oak Island, Jack Begley, Doug Crowell, and Paul Troutman sift through the spoil piles they are continuing to carry excavated from borehole S6, the shaft where they have found evidence that may lead them to the money pit treasure.
JACK BEGLEY: Look at this. It’s a piece of a chain.
DOUG CROWELL: Oh…
PAUL TROUTMAN: Oh, look at that. This could be a part of a collapse from the treasure.
JACK BEGLEY: Well, you know, one of the theories is that chains were used to chain a slave down there, or somebody that was part of a huge workforce to build the money pit.
NARRATOR: According to legend, after a vast treasure was buried in the Oak Island money pit, the shaft was chained to some of the slaves who were buried alive underground. This was done so that the victims’ vengeful spirits would forever guard the treasure vault and curse anyone who tried to remove the contents.
Could this piece of human bone found last year have a basis in this disturbing legend?
GARY: Hey, how’s it going, guys? All right, we need your professional opinion.
MAN: What do you think about that chain link?
GARY: Yeah.
MAN: The link of a chain…
GARY: How old would you say it is?
MAN: Yeah, it’s quite old. It’s an older one by the look of it. You can tell by the shape. Older links of chain are always oval, not round, and that looks like it. Obviously, it’s been through some stress.
GARY: It really looks old. Yeah, it does. It really does.
MAN: And what I like about it is the weight. It would have been hand-forged. Where it came from, it was probably used on a pulley system.
GARY: So you think it could be from the treasure? Or something that was left behind by searchers?
MAN: Well, we were looking for debris, and that, in my opinion, is a possible piece of debris from the original treasure vault, right? We should have this tested. But yeah, it’s definitely something old. There’s got to be more stashed away in here.
GARY: I think that’s…
NARRATOR: If it can be determined to be human, could it be matched to one of the two individuals found last year, whose remains were discovered? Or might it belong to someone else?
MAN: Well, you can see… Yeah, you can just see the way that’s shaped. That’s bone, man. Good eye.
GARY: Cool. Well, the fact that we got it from the shaft 6 means there’s possibly other debris that drifted all the way further north, like we were expecting, or around there. If the money pit is in there, there’s more than just that that was deposited.
GARY: There might be remains.
MAN: Well done, Doug. That was good. I knew there’d be something good in there.
RICK LAGINA: Hey, how’s it going? Good news. Look what Doug just found.
RICK LAGINA: That is… There’s no question about it.
MAN: Well, that’s pretty big, finding a piece of bone on the wash table at shaft 6, though. Why S6 and not H8? The debris field… could explain things that went down through shaft H8 and into our tunnel.
RICK LAGINA: You could. But what are all these pieces doing in the money pit?
RICK LAGINA: Hey, anything’s possible. One step at a time. Get it tested.
RICK LAGINA: Only if it’s human bone, then we take it from there, step by step.
RICK LAGINA: That’s a good find. But let’s keep going. I mean, it’s crazy, because we’re cold and down and soggy like this, and then something like this lifts the spirits.
RICK LAGINA: That’s why we’re doing it. Well, great. You know? That’s good news.
RICK LAGINA: Bag it. Mark it. And we’ll send it off.
RICK LAGINA (VOICEOVER): I think there’s a lot to be learned. We’ll get some DNA analysis done. We’ll certainly have to check: Are they human? Are they not? But look, if they are, then there’s a story here. And we need to unravel it.
RICK LAGINA: Look, I want to just thank you guys for being out here. We’re all wet. We’re all cold. But I think we can’t quit now, right?
RICK LAGINA: These last two tables have been significant. So, look, maybe the third one will be the one.
RICK LAGINA: OK, well, then let’s get after it.
