This one thing I wanted to do and and bear with me folks is I’m going to take us a little trip down memory lane because if you remember we were talking last week about the four quesons that are still in the ground. The actual quesan steel is still in the ground under the money pit. And uh those are of course C1 and V3.
Uh, you’ve got your H8 and then you have the toot1 which was last year’s that they left in there all winter long. And Tom and I were speculating and we had a pretty good idea that it was left in the ground because as Tom had pointed out, it looked like it had been cut off and then just that section was moved off to the side because it didn’t have any teeth or those latching holes for the bolts or whatever in it. So, but I was looking at that and I’m like, V3? What the heck was V3? And I even asked in the chat, “Does anybody remember V3?” And >> I can tell you that I didn’t.
>> I didn’t either. So, I’m like, I got to go back and do a little research here.
Well, as it turns out, V3 was right there, just north of toot.
And V3 happens to be what was originally called Valley 3.
And it was the very first quesan that was put into the money pit. No wonder I didn’t remember. Season 4, episode like number five, I think it was.
>> Long time ago.
>> It was a long time ago. And it was it was the very first one they put in the ground >> and it’s still there today. And so is its uh sister quesan which was C1. It was those two were done that year, Valley 3 and C1. What? I went back and I was looking at these episodes. That right there, folks, is the money pit.
>> Okay, do you remember that? This is before they could even put in a queson.
They’re walking around in the money pit and they’re talking with uh Irving Equipment and those guys there and they’re kind of trying to decide what to do with all this. And so that’s one picture there. They’re looking around with Rick and that is looking towards your northn northwest of the money pit looking across where you see that where up on the hill where they put those cans and stuff.
>> Yeah.
>> Yep.
>> Okay. So, that’s that. This right here is another picture. And now you’re looking I think that you’re looking towards Smith’s Cove >> if I if I believe this way over here. I think >> that’s Isaac’s Point there.
>> Isaac’s Point, right? ing point. Yeah.
Yeah. Looking over Smith’s Cove. Yeah, for sure.
>> Yeah. So, uh and >> Oh, the good old days.
>> Yeah, the good old days. Yeah, for sure.
>> Looks a lot different now. That’s for sure.
>> Was only 28 ft from sea level.
>> Yeah. This is looking uh this is 10x right here.
>> Mhm.
>> And uh this is looking from Smith Cove towards uh the money pit. And I mean, they had a lot of work to do to get this prepared. And this is looking again from that northwest to the southeast. Uh this is the southshore down here. The roads that come up come up over here. And this one right here comes up over here.
>> And then you got the road that goes all the way down towards the swamp. That road goes Yeah. down to the south end of the swamp. And the the women’s memorial would be right about over here.
>> Uh so that gives you a little bit of perspective of just what we’re looking at here. There’s there’s a look at kind of the two. That’s how it looks today.
And that’s how it looked back then when they were um >> Wow.
>> Yeah. Isn’t that something? I I I was so fascinated, folks. I thought, you know, I’m going to share this with you all. I hope you don’t mind. I know we’re going to we’re going to get to the episode tonight because there’s a lot to talk about, but I did want to share this. And that’s one of They were talking when they were making these two roads uh going up into the money pit there. They were talking about that on this episode.
And back then, they would take this hammer grab, this the small green one.
These were only 60-in quesons, uh, 5-footers. And so, they were taking the spoils and putting it in the back of a dump truck. They take the dump truck over to lot 32, I think I wrote down, and they were dumping it over there. And then, uh, that’s Jack in the tractor and uh, of course, Charles. And they’re dumping them over there. And then those two are the ones going through the spoils. Jack running the Mine Labs metal detector.
>> Yeah. And then while they were scraping off the money pit, while this operation was going on and getting rid of all the grass and the bushes and stuff, they found some logs laying there. This was all part of the Dunfield spoils. And they mentioned how the Dunfield spoils had never really been thoroughly looked at. They really he just pushed it. He dug it out, piled it up, and never really went through this stuff. Well, during this time, they found an interesting piece and Rick ran down to the southshore there to clean it in the water. And this is what it was. It’s a piece of rock and it’s got, you know, you can see there’s scraping on it, stuff like that.
Then there’s an X on it. And look at that.
>> It’s a hooked X. Now, anybody raise your hand if you’ve heard about the hooked X and how far back in time this goes. I had forgotten all about this. This was laying in the money pit when they were blading it all off. Well, they got a guy to come out, this guy here, um Phil came out, geologist, and he’s looking at it and he said, he looked right at it and said, “Yeah, this is been this X is the hooked X has been made by man. This has been chiseled into this rock. That is not part of scraping from, you know, glacier action and all that kind of stuff.” He goes, “This is made by man.
It’s a hooked X.” So, he he verified it.
Right.
>> And and a hook a hook deck is not something a person would typically know about. So it’s not something one of the guys sitting around one day just happened to draw.
>> Exactly.
>> Or scratching into a rock.
>> Okay. This is a picture of where they were doing valley three there from overhead. And you see this equipment over here. Tom, you remember back when you and I were talking about the airlifting that they >> they had that big rig? That big thing is laying right here and all these pieces that went over there.
>> So they did have that all set up there.
>> Yep. And those green boxes that look like green boxes, they’re all air compressors. Yeah, exactly. Yep.
>> And uh anyway, so I wanted to point that out. They went down with this in Valley 3. They went down until they hit something solid. There was actually an argument broke out between Rick and Marty. Marty was like, “Keep going. What are you doing? Keep going.” And Rick’s like, “Oh, no, no, just hold up a second.” You know how he is. Rick is Rick wants to take it easy. We don’t want to damage or destroy anything that might be down there. So he’s like, “Let’s hold off, you know, take this easy.” So they tried this airlift. They got nothing out of that. So they said, “All right, well, let’s go down and take a little bit more with the with the hammer grab.” And this is where it was all pumping out. They were pumping all the spoils into this pit right here.
Didn’t really find out if they found anything in it. They were worried that it might collapse the queson. It didn’t, but here they started, they went back in and they started getting little pieces of wood and they thought, “Oh my gosh, we’ve got it. This is this is part of the chapel vault.” Um, and then they got looking at it. There’s some pieces here.
And we’re almost done there. We’ll get back with the episode, folks. And they saw where the core actually went through it right there in that rounded spot.
And then they come up with some more big pieces. They’re like, “Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Stop. Let’s take a look at all this stuff.” Right. Then they took it over to Dan Blankenship. Dan looked at this log and he said, “It’s got circular saw marks on it from a circular blade.
>> This means it has to be the chapel shaft, not the chapel alt. Too new.
