[sighs] [snorts] All right, we’re up.
So, right now I see I see a tall blinking light above the nuclear power plant.
>> What are you seeing?
>> Okay, so hold on.
Holy.
[music] All right. So, here’s what I’m thinking.
We’ve planted the cameras. I think it’s time to scan the sky. I feel like we’re going to have a better chance to see something if we split up. Okay.
>> So, do you have the night vision goggles?
>> Yeah.
>> All right. I’m going to use the infrared moninocular.
>> If anything happens, call me on the walkie.
>> Yeah. You got to be careful, though.
>> Me, too. Along with our purported abductee, there have been many recent sightings of lights in this area. Phil and I are staking out different views of the sky to attempt to see what so many others have reported above Mount Adams.
[music] So, I’ve actually found a spot where I can see through the tree canopy and up into the stars.
>> Time to put these to work.
If there’s any lights floating around here, we’ll get it on tape.
>> Okay, so I’m going to use this binocular.
Super high-res.
You can actually see all the way up to the stars.
Oh my gosh, you can see so many different stars up there.
>> Hey Jessica, how’s it looking?
>> Nothing up top yet.
>> Hang on, hang on, hang on. Move your light. Move your light away.
>> I got some in front of me right now. I think I saw something >> glowing.
Well, like glowing. How?
>> It’s right through here. Look at that.
Are you getting this? It’s right through here. What is that?
>> Phil, I have something glowing in front of me.
>> What are we looking at over there?
>> What are you seeing, Phil?
Phil, talk to me. What are you seeing?
Hang on. I’m going to try and image it from my position. All right. Where in the sky? Where is it?
>> And now it’s gone.
>> No, it’s not. I just saw something.
It’s coming up from the tree line.
>> I got it. It looks brighter. No idea what I’m looking at here.
>> It’s changing direction. It It totally just came out and went back behind the tree line.
There it is. There it is.
>> It’s coming up from the tree line.
>> This is crazy.
>> What is that? Oh, that’s curving.
It’s coming back towards me. I Oh. Oh, no.
>> I don’t see it anymore.
Of everything we’ve seen tonight, that has stood out the most.
>> Whatever it is, I have it on video.
>> Let’s get back together and compare it to what we’ve got.
>> All right, sounds good.
[sighs] >> Saw something up there.
>> What the hell was that? I got it on video. I’ve got it moving all over the place. It wasn’t a satellite. Definitely not a shooting star. I don’t think it’s a plane. There was no blinking lights on it and [music] it didn’t travel in the same trajectory.
>> I mean, I saw something.
>> I’m feeling really good about it.
>> You’re fired up right now. [music] I’m totally fired up. Well, let’s just keep looking at the sky.
We head back out and post up to continue scanning overhead. But after hours of staring [music] into space, chance of getting anything?
>> We don’t see anything else unusual.
At dawn the next morning, we make the long hike out of the forest. Our plan is to take our recordings to be analyzed by former Air Force test pilot and UFO researcher Dan Nims to see if what we saw was also detected by his DAB camera which we deployed on the slopes of the mountain. First though, there’s one more theory we want to investigate. Some researchers claim that Mount Adam’s strange lights come from somewhere in the mountains peak. Recently, an even more sensational [music] claim has come to light. video of a so-called UFO hanger door, which has been posted online and viewed more than 3.5 million times.
The next morning, we meet up with Jimmy Church, the radio and television host who shot the footage. If you look right there, the second peak, there is a rectangular hanger door that is open.
>> That uh footage you captured over on Mount Adams is incredible. What we shot is right through those trees.
>> Uhuh.
>> And I shot it from right over here. And if you’d like to check it out, we can jump in the car.
>> That’d be great.
>> Let’s go.
>> Mount Adams. What is it that makes you convinced this place is so special?
>> The sightings that happen here on the mountain and around the mountain would indicate to me that the mountain is the attraction. But it also goes back to 1947.
>> Kenneth Arnold had his first UFO sighting flying towards Mount Adams.
>> That’s when pilot Kenneth Arnold was flying home from a business trip in a small single engine aircraft.
>> I climbed back up to 9200 ft across the face of Mount Reneer.
>> What he saw was a series of nine objects passing Mount Reneer at an estimated 1,200 mph. To my knowledge, there isn’t anything that would go that fast. They seem to flip and flash in the sun. They seem to kind of weave in and out right above the mountaintop. They look something like a a pie plate that was cut in half with a sort of a convex triangle in the rear.
>> He tracked them visually until they disappeared somewhere in the vicinity of Mount Adams.
>> Like I told the Associated Press, I’ll I’d be glad to confirm it with my hands on a Bible because I did see it. The sighting prompted an Air Force investigation and national media attention. It is often credited as the first UFO sighting in modern times.
Arnold’s description of the flying objects as discike or half moon- shaped led the media to coin the term flying saucers, a phrase that would quickly become synonymous with UFOs.
We pull into a field about 16 mi away from the base of the mountain. Jimmy says this is the best vantage point for a view of the so-called hatch. When we arrive, however, the peak is shrouded by clouds.
>> So beautiful.
>> Oh my gosh, >> there’s something really extraordinary happening around Mount Adams, but possibly inside of it. And you can see the details of what appears to be an entrance or a door at the top of the mountain.
>> So then, how come somebody hasn’t just gone up there to check it out? There’s a lot of mountain climbing that happens on the east side of the mountain. That’s an easy ridge to get up. But as far as the second [music] peak over there, no, that is a sheer ice wall. The team takes out their most powerful telephoto lens to try to get a view of the supposed hanger door.
This is what a lot of people have claimed is like portal or a UFO door or a hanger. I see what you mean. There’s this deeply shadowed part of the mountain which does look squared off.
That’s weird looking.
>> That is crazy looking. I totally see why people think there’s something up there.
>> My team is reviewing eyewitness footage captured just last week of unexplained lights in the Sakuro night sky by a woman who wishes to remain anonymous.
>> There’s more than one. Oh my god.
>> You could see it was actually multiple lights.
>> Oh my gosh. Look at that. I do see multiple lights.
>> Yeah, me too.
>> You could see there’s what, three, four different lights?
>> Yeah, like a whole line of them.
>> Interesting.
>> So, you don’t think you saw just a single UFO? You think you saw what? A formation of them.
>> It seemed kind of like a fleet of craft.
>> Which direction did you see those lights?
>> I saw the lights to the southeast hovering right around South Baldi Peak.
I’ve heard stories about UFOs and aliens, but I’ve always been skeptic.
After this, I don’t know what to think.
>> According to our eyewitness, the strange fleet of craft were flying over South Baldi Peak just east of Sakoro and the legendary Zamora landing site. So, we’re heading over 10,000 ft into the Magdalena Mountains. And thank God there’s a road.
>> Well, that is really high.
>> Keeping my eyes on the road. I got it.
This position also offers a direct line of sight towards White Sands Missile Range and Hollowman Air Force Base to the southeast.
With no lightning in the forecast, there will be no mistaking anything we see as atmospheric phenomenon. And tonight, I’ll be deploying a brand new technique to hunt for UFOs. And it’s going to blow Phil’s mind.
>> What is this?
>> I’ll show you. 3 2 1 [music] >> What?
>> Right.
So, one [music] of the theories running around UFO circles right now is that aliens are attracted to anything that has a lot of lights and lasers. And so, I figured we’d bring this out here.
We’re out in the middle of nowhere and try and lure some UFOs in.
>> So, they’re like space cats in the sky following laser pointers. Pretty much.
It may sound far-fetched, but a few years ago, an astrophysicist at MIT proposed shooting a high-powered laser into deep space to attract [music] extraterrestrials to Earth. They have yet to put the plan into action. So, allow me to make some history. Now, while my setup won’t beam into deep space, it is reaching the outer edges of our atmosphere. So, if any visitors to Earth are in the neighborhood, maybe this will get their attention.
You know, the other night when we filmed what we filmed in the sky, I realized that that lowlight IR camera didn’t quite have the resolution I was looking for. This is the PVS14. This is essentially militaryra night vision technology. This thing is going to let us see absolutely everything out there.
Well, I’m going to head out with my night vision. Are you just going to sit here and stare at your lasers? As much as I would like to hang out here and sing Pink Floyd to myself, uh, you know, a lot of people say that when they see these UFOs that there’s not any sound that they can hear, but maybe it’s just because the sound they do emit is just too faint for the human ear to pick up.
So, I figured I’d bring the parabolic mic. You can be the eyes, I’ll be the ears, lasers will be the lure, and any sound that I pick up, I can record, and we can go back and listen and analyze it later.
>> All right, sounds like a plan.
All right, this thing can see anything out here in the dark. This militarygrade scope can amplify any surrounding light more than any night vision device in the world. But there’s one problem is that it can’t [music] record. So that’s why we 3D printed this a mount for the scope that attaches to a smartphone that we can [music] record on. So I’ll get my evidence.
Look at that. There’s Jess’s lasers.
[music] I don’t know if anybody’s ever tried to actually record [music] a UFO sound with something like this.
Maybe we’ll get lucky.
Wait, I’m getting something.
So, I’m kind of picking up a persistent hum in this direction. A low hum.
They are right there.
What the [music] >> Phil? Are you there?
>> Yeah, I’m here. How’s it going?
>> I keep hearing things.
>> Um, what are you hearing?
>> I don’t know what it is. It’s kind of like this low hum.
>> Are you seeing anything or hearing anything on your end?
>> [snorts] >> I’m hearing nothing on my head. It is completely silent out here.
>> Okay, I’ll let you know if I hear anything else.
After an hour of scanning the skies, we’re definitely not getting lucky. And then, wait, it’s back. That home is back.
>> Whoa, whoa, whoa. Did you see that? Did you see that? What the hell is that?
It’s traveling south.
It’s hard to keep focus on it.
Starting [music] to disappear behind the clouds.
>> Jesse, are you there? Are you there?
>> I’m here.
>> I saw something.
>> I don’t know what that was. It wasn’t flashing like a plane, and I don’t think it was a satellite.
>> We’ve been seeing some weird stuff out here, so who knows?
>> Do you still have eyes on it? No, I lost it. It was heading south towards White Sands.
>> I continue listening for any strange sounds while Phil keeps scanning the stars with the militaryra scope.
But after scouring the sky for hours, there’s nothing else to report.
I’m shocked that Jess and I managed to record not [music] one but two unidentified flying objects in a single week out here. Both were traveling in the same direction south toward White Sands Missile Range.
>> Man, they are going at it.
>> Right as I was about to press play, >> that scared me a little bit.
This is the weirdest place we’ve ever investigated.
>> So weird.
>> All right. You want to >> Should we see if this thing works?
>> Yeah. Let’s do a little test run.
Perfect. Perfect.
>> There we go.
>> Nice.
As far back as the 1980s, organizations like NASA and the SETI Institute have pioneered research aimed at detecting patterns in radio waves that may indicate they are intentional signals from intelligent beings. Based on this previous research and recent attempts by James Kenan, we’re attempting our own experiment.
First, we’re sending a specific wavelength of laser light into the sky while playing a tone from our speakers with a matching frequency.
Our hope is that any intelligent beings out there can interpret these corresponding numbers and respond back in a different spectrum in the form of radio waves.
>> So what are we utilizing here with his uh theory?
>> So the laser that we have is 532 nanome.
>> So I’m wondering if we play [music] 532 hertz. So even if they can’t quite recognize that we’re intelligent, maybe they’ll say, “Hey, they like this 532 number. Let’s uh send it back. And if they send it back >> Uhhuh.
>> we have this. This [music] is a RF receiver.
>> Mhm.
>> And [music] it will ping us and show us different little peaks here. And there’s a certain code that tells you a certain number. And [music] so 532 is C8. An RF receiver measures radio frequencies, a form of radiation emitted by many electronic devices, everything from cell phones to satellites. Our hope is that any UAPs out there will have the same technology to send frequencies in this spectrum which we can then measure on this device.
>> So the goal then is to send out the 532 number both audibly and [music] through wavelength.
>> Correct.
>> And then hopefully if there’s something out there it will get that and then in order to say we see you, they send back a 532 signal onto the receiver. [music] >> Yeah. Do you know how I came up with this idea? Um, I’ve been watching a lot of Star Trek recently, [laughter] and they use something like this to communicate with a hyper intelligent species, and it’s borrowing a little bit of James’ logic here of just sending out something that is uniform into the air.
>> Yeah. No, I’m into it. Well, while you’re doing this, cuz this was very complicated, I’m going to go ahead and just let the IR camera run. I’m going to have eyes to the sky with the night vision goggles.
>> Okay. Do you want to [music] be in charge of that laser?
>> I’ll be in charge of the laser. Don’t point it at the eyes.
>> Of course not.
All right.
[music] >> Are all four on?
>> All four are on.
We’re all set. Let’s hit the tone. I’m going to stand over here.
>> Cool.
>> And look up.
>> All right. I’m going to play 532 hertz.
[snorts] >> All right. Go ahead.
>> [music] >> I’m going to turn on the RF receiver and see if we get anything interesting coming in.
>> Okay, sounds [music] good.
Yeah, I’m not picking up any flashes.
[music] I just saw a green flash up there. Did you see that?
>> No. Up here?
>> Yeah.
>> By where? By the laser.
>> Um, far to the right of the laser.
>> To the right of the laser.
We got some hits on RF.
>> Oh, really?
>> Yeah.
>> Does it match?
>> Let me go through. Right in this area.
So, you see all those little peaks?
>> Uh-huh.
>> So, those are the different hits. And scrolling through that tells me what we’re actually receiving here. So, a couple of those peaks. My guess is that is our uh microphones.
>> Okay. So, that might be all us if we haven’t gotten the CA back. You want to try one more time?
[snorts] >> You know, if 11-year-old me could see me now, just try and see that diamond in the sky again.
>> You don’t know until you try.
>> This isn’t exactly the first time I’ve been drawn to the skies questioning what else is out there.
>> You saw something hovering in the sky, a diamond rhombuslike shape. Suddenly, it disappeared and it is signed a true story. [music] I know how witness testimonies can change over time and I wanted to remember exactly what happened that night. So, I went home, wrote it all down and I mean, like I said, it is a true story.
>> And do you think it was a true UFO?
>> I saw by definition an identified flying object. I don’t know what it was. All right, going to hit it one more time.
You seeing anything?
So, there’s the different peaks. So, we’re looking for C8.
>> Was that C8?
>> Oh my god. Jess, get over here. Did we actually get a hit?
>> Look at this. Exactly 532 hertz coming in in radio frequency. So there’s no way this got confused by the sound. We got the >> That’s the response.
>> So each one of those bars >> Yeah.
>> is a different frequency that it’s picking up. So I scrolled through to say what is it encountering?
>> Oh, and it’s like not this one, not this one. You got C8.
>> Yeah.
>> Do it again. Do it again. Send out another signal. See if we get another response.
>> Okay. Okay. I’m going to play the tone one more time. We are scanning.
Getting a bunch of readings coming in.
>> Holy >> things that that small peak right there.
>> We got it again.
So >> So that means something’s responding to us. I I have to try to be skeptical of of a single data point and say maybe it happens to be that something in all of our electronics or the RV happens to give off 532 hertz.
>> That one particular frequency out of how many frequencies are there?
>> Out of thousands of potential frequencies this could receive.
>> Out of all these potential frequencies that we could have used, you’re telling me that the one that we’re actually [music] getting a response on is maybe because the RV is using it. No. Mm-m. I don’t think so.
>> I would love for this to be some alien craft out there, >> but there’s probably military around here. There’s aircraft [music] overhead.
Who knows what’s just naturally in the air around here that this happened to receive [music] that happened to be in that perfect frequency that we were putting out.
[music] So, >> that is cool. What if it’s the ship that came to you at 11 years old and it’s like, “Hey, bud. What’s up?
>> Thanks for being persistent. We came back. We’re back for you. Maybe they’ll beam you on your ship and your dream of becoming a real life Star Trek character will come true. [snorts] >> Great. Starfleet, I’m ready for you.
>> Okay, so sun’s finally down.
I’ve got IR on.
Let’s start scanning and see what we get.
All right, so that right there, that’s that red tower, blinking tower up there.
And we got the city over here.
So, I’m just trying to kind of get a sense of location so that I don’t misread some of these blinking lights cuz there are a lot of lights in the area.
Got really excited for a minute there, but it was a bug.
So, the tricky thing is is it’s a little bit of a hazy night. So, you’re getting these stars that seem to be going in and out, but because they’re not moving, makes it pretty obvious that that’s some sort of constellation.
And then, and then if one’s moving pretty steady, you know it’s a satellite.
That right there, that is a reflection of that. So, if somebody was out here with binoculars or something else or their own IR, they might mistake that for a UFO. But really, that’s just a reflection of those lights down there.
Oh, whoa. Here we go. Here we go. Right over here, directly out in front of me.
What the?
>> Phil, you copy?
>> Yeah. What’s up?
>> I actually see something. Do you see that?
>> Not in position yet. What do you got?
>> I need you to hurry up and get into position as soon as you can.
>> Okay, let’s move. Let’s move. All [music] right, Jess. I’m getting there.
Give me a second.
there.
Oh god, look at this thing.
[snorts] All right, we’re up.
So, right now, I see I see a tall blinking light above the nuclear power plant.
>> What are you seeing?
>> Okay, so hold on.
Holy.
I just saw a light go across the horizon up and down and like roll off to the side.
>> What direction, Jess? Guide me.
>> East to west. Uh, starting where the plant is all the way across. It was definitely not a boat. It was just like moving independently of its own. And it was kind of like going up a little bit and then down a little bit. It was not above the horizon line. was actually in between where the plant would be and where I’m standing on the mountain.
>> That sounds pretty close.
>> I know. I didn’t even see anything with my bare eyes. It was only with the binoculars.
>> East to west.
Wild.
>> I don’t know what I just saw. He’s gone.
>> Okay, we got something. I’m going to set my camera up on a tripod because I have I have really good visibility up here.
Didn’t see what you saw, but maybe if we keep the camera running, we’ll get lucky.
>> I definitely want to keep the cameras going tonight. Absolutely.
>> We set up [music] static cameras and both of our locations to observe the skies for further activity.
Okay, so we have Fukushima here on the right.
See a bit of the horizon and the sky is taking up everything else.
Okay, we got a recording. Let’s see what happens.
Jess and I proceed to monitor the Fukushima plant through the night, but our stakeout yields no additional UFO sightings.
Is that it?
>> Oh my gosh. In the distance down there.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
>> Loch Ness.
[music] >> I’m guessing that guy down at the end of the beach with that giant spotting binoculars, it’s [music] got to be Steve.
>> Definitely.
>> Steve Felum is a Nessie researcher who’s been living on Door’s Beach and searching for the Lochness Monster for over 30 years.
>> [music] >> He holds the Guinness World Record for the longest continuous vigil in the search for Nessie.
>> Hey, Steve. I’m Phil. Hi, Phil.
>> Nice to meet you.
>> Good to meet you.
>> Hi there.
>> Hi there.
>> Nice to meet you, Steve.
>> Anything out there today?
>> Not so far.
>> But you’ve been watching this lake for how long now?
>> 33 years. Full time.
>> 33 years.
>> And how many times have you seen it?
>> In the first year, I saw something as if a torpedo shot through the water. waves this high all going that way. So something was just below the surface pushing through.
>> How fast?
>> Pretty fast. Less than 10 seconds. This thing just went bof bof bof as it hit each oncoming wave. Just a white spray and I just froze and pointed at it and then it was gone.
>> So we’ve seen these amazing photographs [music] that she took.
>> Yeah.
>> Where did she take those pictures? just here on doors beach. She’d been for something to eat with her husband in the Door’s in. They came out for a walk along the beach and just out here only 200 meters from the shore, she became aware of a disturbance going on. She had a very good camera with her. She set it to sports mode so it would take a succession of pictures and in total over 3 minutes she took 71 images. Normally if we get a sighting here, people take one or two photographs. Historically, they’re normally grainy and out of focus and normally I can explain it. But those I looked at them and I thought that really does defy explanation.
>> So have people analyze these images [music] to give theories on what else it may be?
>> The theory is that it’s the bubbles caused by a couple of divers.
>> Did she see any divers active on that day?
>> Very much not.
>> No boats came by to pick them up?
>> No. No. Is there any other recent evidence that stands out to you?
>> Yeah, very much. In fact, the piece of evidence that eclipses this in the quality was taken by Ronald McKenzie. He drives a pleasure boat that comes out of Fort Augustus on hourong trips. He’s been doing it for 40 years. He’s got state-of-the-art sonar equipment on there. And as he turned and went across the middle of Loch Ness, his sonar picked up this single target.
>> This one right here.
>> That one right there.
>> That is amazing. Yeah, it’s like a bathtub. The sides come straight down like that. So, it’s totally flat bottoms.
>> The depth of water where this anomaly was captured is 189 m or 620 ft. Using the sonar data scale, we can estimate the object’s depth to be approximately 557 ft down and 33 ft long.
>> That’s massive. So, that to me is the absolutely best piece of evidence I’ve ever seen from here of a big animal swimming about in this water. So, after all these [music] years, you do still think there is something big out there waiting to be discovered.
>> I’m absolutely convinced. Yes. This is probably the world’s greatest mystery.
[music] >> Thank you for all the information you’ve given us. We will keep our eyes on the lake and see what we find.
>> If you can find an explanation, let me know.
>> Do what we can. All right, Steve.
Appreciate it.
Now that we know the exact location of Nessie’s most recent sighting, Phil is heading out to the same orange and white buoys we saw in Chi’s photos.
Some believe what Chi photographed was just scuba divers and their bubbles. So, we plan to put that theory to the test.
While Phil dives near the buoys, I’ll be on shore with my camera in the exact same location she was when she took her photos.
>> Okay, Heather, I’m at the buoy.
>> I’ll get my dry suit on. Let me suit up and get in the water and blow some bubbles.
>> Can’t wait to see what you see.
>> Okay, let’s get suited up.
>> Okay, put away to walkie. Once I’m in the water, we’ll switch to watercoms.
Copy.
>> Say hi to Nessie for me.
>> I can’t believe I get to dive and lock an S.
So, how’s it looking down there?
>> It is dark.
Visibility is maybe 10, 15 ft.
A cruise ship could be in front of me and I wouldn’t be able to see it.
>> So, the perfect place to hide a sea monster >> or a lock monster.
>> Be safe out there.
Okay, I’ve got my orientation. I’m going to head in a straight line and blow some bubbles. Sounds good. [groaning] I mean, the spacing is completely different here. I’m seeing constant bubbles. And with cheese pictures, there are gaps.
The shape also seems very different.
This doesn’t look like cheese pictures at all, which is exciting because that means we might have real images of Nessie.
I got the shots.
>> Come on in. You are going to want to see these pictures.
>> Okay, coming in.
Hey, Mr. Mermaid.
>> Let me see how these bubbles turn out.
>> That’s the buoy.
>> Yep.
>> That’s your bubble.
>> That’s my bubbles.
>> They’re tiny. I’m sorry.
>> Hold up. Let me compare to cheese photos.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. So, this is what is really interesting and I think you’re going to like it.
>> Okay.
There’s her whatever she saw.
Look at that.
>> Come on, keep scrolling, dude. That can’t be as big as a bubbles got.
Really?
>> Yes. I’m telling you. I looked at all these images and they’re teensy tiny bubbles. And that is huge. Let’s look at the shape of the bubbles here and then the shape of whatever that is.
>> They look nothing alike.
>> No. And that’s exciting.
>> It’s true. But here’s my thought. So, have you heard of deal vertical migration?
>> No, Phil.
>> Okay. So, it’s this pattern that organisms exhibit when they either in marine environments or really deep lakes where by day they stay at the bottom and then they do this vertical migration. At night, they come up closer to the surface, which means if there’s a lot of other animals big and small, that exhibit this behavior, maybe if there’s something big living in this lake, it would do that behavior, too.
>> Ah, okay. Hey, so you’ve already got a plan in place.
>> Oh, yeah. We’re looking for nothing. I’m not messing around this investigation.
>> I like it. I feel the exact same way.
>> With her equipment in tow, we meet with local [music] skipper Les Butterworth.
>> Welcome aboard. I’ll give you a hand here.
>> And board his 31 ft fishing boat capable of scanning the deepest depths of the lock.
>> I’m guessing you spend a lot of time on this water.
>> We do. Yes. And do you think Nessie’s out there?
>> Yes, I think she is.
>> Okay. You believe there’s something in the water?
>> I do believe. Yes. When I was up at the pier here one night and I saw this just a rise out the water and it was definitely a creature of some sort.
Everybody has seen something of some.
They’ve all seen something of some sort >> down in Fort Augustus is a big Abby, old Abby.
>> And these monks have records. I’ve seen old old records and I saw ancient drawings dated a way back and these monks paintings that they’ve done what they’ve seen these drawings showed Nessie humps and all. Why would they lie? They’ve got nothing to financially to gain by it. So there must be something in it, you know.
>> I don’t know about you, but you got to get out on the water today.
>> You better get out in the water today.
>> Yeah.
We set off towards the northern end near Door’s Beach.
Our plan is to divide the lock into a grid, methodically scanning every stretch with the sonar.
Okay, so I’ve got this laptop hooked up to the boat’s onboard sonar. So, as we travel the lock, we will document every single thing underneath us. I mean, look how deep we are already.
>> 600 almost 600 ft.
>> So, what are some animals that you think might live in the lock >> that could be mistaken for Nessie?
>> Yeah.
>> Well, it has been documented that the occasional bomb-mills dolphin or seal comes up the river nest and actually gets trapped inside the lock.
Those are easily big enough for someone to see it quickly and think they’re seeing Nessie. And then there’s the theory that Nessie herself is just a giant catfish. This species called the Wells catfish can live over 100 years, can be up to 15 feet long, and weighs 600 lb.
>> I mean, I hope it’s not a catfish. I eat way too much fried catfish to come all the way over to Loch Ness to just discover a catfish.
>> Well, if we do find it, you’re not finding this one, Helen.
>> I know I’m not.
>> As the hours tick by, our search continues [music] into the night.
It’s 2 hours [music] after sunset. We’ve investigated the lock from end to end without spotting anything. We’re now back [music] where we started at the place Chi took her photos. Phil tells the boat to idle. He wants to explore if the deal vertical migration theory, also known as DVM, might apply [music] to Nessie, seeing if we can spot it traveling to the surface in the early night to feed.
Phil flies the thermal drone while I [music] use the night vision binoculars, scanning the surface of the lock for any signs of life.
[music] >> Scanning the waters.
>> You’re not seeing any fish?
>> Nothing right now.
>> And are you sure that’ll pick up over water?
>> Yeah, because if you calibrate [music] a drone to the temperature of the water, anything a little bit over that temperature could show up.
But I’m really not seeing anything. I’m going to get a little bit lower, see if maybe get better resolution, but I’m just seeing cold water right now.
>> So much for your DVM theory.
>> The science is sound. It’s just uh it’s >> just not science in tonight.
>> Yeah, I guess so.
Gosh, that is a bright full moon.
>> You know what they say about skunk apes on a full moon? What?
>> That’s when they’re at their stinkiest.
>> Oh, Lord.
>> Wait till you get a sniff of what I got.
Ready for this?
>> I’m not sure.
>> So, can you hold my jars of >> leaking? What is this?
>> We have skunk, we have bore glands, and we have bear scent marks.
>> Are you trying to out skunk the skunk, though?
>> 100%. That’s what I’m trying to do. So, my plan involves this. It is a laserg guided slingshot.
>> Laserg guided.
>> It was the only one they had at this store.
>> Each of these wooden balls in here >> Yeah.
>> have been soaking for about 48 hours.
>> I’m using the slingshot to launch animals scented objects in multiple directions. Different reactions can be triggered in primates by presenting them with different scents, particularly if the scent arrives suddenly, like this slingshot will ensure.
>> I want to see what’s coming towards us.
So, let me get my flare out. Okay.
>> Got that for me. Thank you.
>> Are we recording?
>> Okay, time to get out these stinky wooden balls. I can start with bear.
Get up close. Come on. Feel >> a little.
It’s not pleasant.
>> I’m guessing bear scent will trigger an aggressive behavior in apes. Let’s see what response we get here. Looks like we got some good distance right there.
Bear scent ready to launch.
Okay, there’s one.
Now we got skunk.
If what we’re tracking marks its territory with a scent similar to skunk, I’m hoping launching this skunk smell will trigger a territorial response.
Stink bomb away.
>> Nice.
>> Okay.
>> And finally, wild boar.
The idea here is bore could serve two purposes. One could be prey item and two bore eat about everything. So definitely could be some competition. I’m going to shoot this in a slightly different direction.
>> Okay, >> give each one it space.
Okay, let’s hunker down and just see what comes.
>> Nothing on the camera yet.
Let’s give it a second.
Oh, that was a big branch falling down.
You shot a ball in that direction.
That was really loud. Are you going to get on the fire?
Get right over there. To the left. To the left.
Oh my god.
Look up. Look up. Look up. Look up.
Can you see it up in the trees up there?
A little bit lower.
There again. That sounds like a knock.
Like it’s just someone just banging a stick against something.
>> Oh my gosh.
There’s definitely a big movement happening about 100 150 ft in front of us.
>> I can’t see anything past 40 ft on this.
It’s so thick and heavy this brush.
>> Yeah.
>> I think you need to put the thermal drone up in the air.
>> Okay, I get it out.
>> Okay, you hold that.
Looks like we have a little break in the canopy right here. So, you want to stand underneath that?
>> Yeah. Ready?
>> Yeah.
>> In three, two, one.
>> At least we know that we’re lighting up.
>> Yeah, we’re definitely showing up on there.
>> I’m going to push the direction of what we just heard.
That just looks like treetops.
You don’t see anything.
>> Swing back around a little bit.
Let’s keep pushing.
>> The What is that?
>> Let’s follow it. Maybe we can get sides of whatever it is.
>> Okay, >> it’s going quick.
>> I’m right behind you.
>> Still going. Still going. Fast.
>> Keep going. Keep going.
>> Okay, we’re getting close. We’re getting close. [snorts] I’m going to keep the drone following.
>> Stop right here. Stop right here.
Hang on.
I’m not seeing it right now. Was right over here.
I don’t get it. It just disappeared.
>> Yeah, it’s gone.
That thing was moving. you was moving.
I cannot find it.
>> We don’t know where it is, but we know where it’s been. We can backtrack along this path the exact same way that it came and we can try to find evidence of it.
>> Should we spread out a little bit?
>> I think that’s our best chance.
>> Why don’t you start on that side of its trail? Move slowly. I’m going to find a place to land this drone, but let’s stay within shouting distance.
It’s going to be tough to find any traces of it.
Getting this feeling where it could be right above us at any moment.
>> What is that?
>> Look at those ferns lying on the ground like that.
Bill, come here.
>> You got something? I think I’ve got a nest >> up in a tree.
>> No, on the ground.
>> This?
>> Yeah.
>> Whoa.
Okay. Okay. I mean, look at this indent right here. Something has spent a lot of time on the ground.
My first instinct is I got to wonder, could this just be a hunter’s blind?
They would be really well camouflaged. I almost walked right by this thing. I mean, in the path we took, we are in the middle of nowhere. Think about what we did to get out of here.
>> Wait, wait, wait.
>> Oh, >> that is awesome.
>> That is ripe.
>> That just came on all of a sudden. What does that mean?
>> I don’t know what that means.
It smells just like the other tree nest.
That was not a nice smell. I’m going to get some photos of this thing.
>> Oh, Heather.
>> Oh, what do you have?
>> I found hairs.
>> No.
>> Yes.
I’ll get this right. Oh, holy.
It’s like that damn thing is booby trapped. It really did just fall right when you picked that up.
>> Okay. But at least we got the hairs.
Okay. I’m going to bag these actually.
Can you come here? Can you help me?
>> Yeah.
>> Hold this.
Okay. Bag right here.
That is so weird.
Okay. Well, figure out what this was. whether it was a person or something else.
>> Now, head out to the edge of the Hawkamok Swamp to meet with Gates’s contacts.
Hey, y’all must be Matt and Tim. So glad to meet y’all.
>> Likewise.
>> Matt Monz and Tim Weisberg are arguably the leading researchers of the Bridgewater Triangle, [music] sharing their findings on a radio show dedicated to its mysteries. So, tell me about y’all’s background. How did y’all get into this? I’m a scientist by trade, background in analytical chemistry, and I work as a journalist. I want the story. He wants the data.
>> So, what do you think is here?
>> To me, I think it’s all energy. People who come out here and investigate, they’re looking for individual experiences, but what we’re experiencing is just different manifestations of that same energy.
>> Do you believe this energy has some type of sentience?
>> I think so. I think it’s been here forever and it’s going to be here long after we are.
>> What makes y’all think it’s so old?
>> We got our hands on a US Geological Survey map of the area once >> and it’s all just one big granite shelf and all of that granite is so rich in quartz. We’re sitting on top of one giant crystal. We are on a giant paranormal battery.
>> Wow, that’s incredible.
>> On the south side of the swamp, I’m following up with one of our most intriguing town hall witnesses.
>> Hey, Harry. Hey, hey, thanks for meeting up with me.
>> Harry Green Jr. claims he had a terrifying encounter in the heart of the Hawkamok. One so disturbing that he says it blurred the boundaries between spirit [music] and beast. What can you tell me about the swamp?
>> I was out one night deep in the Hakamok and one particular area I smelt this musky smell. The same scent that people get a whiff of right before a Sasquatch sighting. The temperature started to decrease. Then, believe it or not, I saw this bluish face hovering above the trees and it evaporated into this misty lightning. Blue face. Yes. The hairs on my arms stood up. What’s so interesting to me is any of those things happened singularly. You may kind of shrug it off. Okay, it’s cold right here. Okay, there’s a weird smell over there. But it seems like all of those happen at the same time in the same place. Yes.
>> Where exactly did you see this?
>> Right near the skim milk bridge.
>> Skim milk bridge.
>> Yes.
>> Given y’all’s experience, if we want to understand more about the Bridgewater Triangle, where should we look?
>> Well, my suggestion would be start at Skim Milk Bridge because that’s where a number of paranormal things, UFOs, [music] as well as cryptids have occurred.
>> Okay. So, we have a destination. But bear in mind, what you go looking for in the triangle is not necessarily what finds you.
>> So, we need to be careful.
>> Be very careful.
>> With an ominous warning from Matt and Tim, I meet back up with Phil. It’s clear where we’re headed tonight. The Hakamok Swamp.
>> So, it seems like everyone agrees skim bridge is where we got to go.
>> Yeah. And I’ve been thinking about this.
Some people believe bridges are liinal spaces, places of connection, >> right? And there’s this theory that water can be a paranormal conduit. So essentially, we’re at a spiritual crossroads with an ancient bridge and this water leading directly to the swamp.
>> So water, ancient bridge, X marks the spot. [music] >> Exactly. The Skin Milk Bridge is a dry stone slab bridge, which means it was made without any mortar. No one knows exactly when or how it was built, but it likely dates back to the late 18th century. Historians believe the name comes from stories that the water turned milky during its construction due to disturbed white clay. But bigger than the mystery of its creation is the mystery of its purpose. Why does it [music] sit at the center of so many supernatural reports? Could this mysterious structure somehow be a conduit for the strange energy in the bedrock below?
God We are here. Bridge is there. Let’s head in.
>> Copy that.
>> Where is this bridge?
>> I don’t know. We should have been there by now.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh no.
>> What?
>> Uh, bad news. GPS is dead.
>> What do you mean dead?
>> It’s not turning on. Completely dead.
Listen, I’m telling you, I fully charged this thing before we came out. This should be able to stay on for days.
>> For once, I’m not going to blame you.
I’m going to blame the Bridgewater Triangle.
>> I have no idea where we are, honestly.
We can’t even see the stars to figure out what direction we’re going.
>> Well, everyone kept warning us about how easy it was to get lost in here. So, I brought compasses.
>> Oh, >> wa.
>> Which are >> showing completely different directions.
>> What?
That’s crazy. So, something is making our equipment go haywire.
>> They’re moving back.
>> Now they’re aligned.
>> Now they’re aligned. Let’s hope that they’re both correct now and that north is this way. We know the stream was east of us and we haven’t crossed the stream yet. So, say we head east. If we find the stream, we can find the bridge.
>> Okay, you take one and hopefully they stay matched up.
You hear that?
>> Yeah.
Is that the stream?
>> I think it’s the stream right up here.
There it is.
All right, we found the stream. Next, let’s find Skiimo Bridge.
>> Okay, I >> think it’s going to be downstream of here. Go that way.
>> All right.
>> Steal on the bank.
>> Bridge.
>> Bridge. Yes.
>> Wow.
>> Oh my gosh.
>> Look at this thing.
>> These stones are massive. How the heck did they build this?
>> I have no idea.
>> Okay. Skin milk bridge. Not the best name, but pretty cool bridge.
If Skim Milk Bridge truly is the nexus of the Bridgewater Triangle, then we’re going all in covering land, air, and water with everything we’ve got. I rig EMF trip wires across the bridge to catch any energy spikes and plant multiple rim pods on both sides of the river and on the structure itself.
Meanwhile, Phil sets up trail cams and gets eyes on the sky.
So, you’re making yourself right at home. Did a little bit of decorating?
>> I did.
>> Well, I have a camera set up. Keep an eye out with the night vision binoculars and have the thermal drone on standby.
>> I’m going to do a call and response session with a rim pod in the center of the bridge. So, you’ve got the surroundings. I’ve got the bridge.
>> Okay. Be careful. Stand walking.
>> Copy.
And if this bridge has been here for hundreds of years and this old trail has also probably been here for hundreds of years.
I’m going to record. This is B.
This is Heather. I’m on the skim milk bridge.
Is there anyone here with me? You can touch this rim pod. You can touch the trip wires.
I’ll know. I’ll see it.
I’m trying to understand this energy here. People have said that whatever is in the Bridgewater Triangle is sentient.
Let me know you’re here.
Oh my gosh. Okay, you’re here.
Are you a spirit?
Are you an ancient energy?
Do you manifest in multiple ways?
>> Yes, I knew it.
>> This riverbank’s probably my best vantage point. I’m going to keep an eye out for movement along the tree line and see if anything is moving towards us.
Were you watching us earlier tonight?
>> Nether’s getting a lot of activity.
>> Do you harm people?
>> Yes. Yes. Multiple yeses.
Oh, over there. Over there. There’s a lot of movement happening. My visibility is just completely shot by the thick brush.
>> Oh my god.
>> Whoa. There’s big noise over there.
>> What the was that?
Was that you?
Yes.
Do you copy?
>> Yeah, I copy. Did you hear that on the other side of the bridge?
>> Yeah. You heard that?
>> Yeah. And I can’t make it out with the night vision binoculars. So, I’m about to launch the thermal drone.
>> Try to get eyes on it.
>> Copy that. Let me know what you find.
>> We’ll do.
So, I can see the river. I think that little dot is Heather on the bridge.
Whoa. Hot spot. Is that it?
>> Heather, there’s something moving. It’s going at you right now.
>> Look to your left.
Do you see it?
>> I’m not seeing anything, but my re pod is going off.
It’s getting close. It’s getting close.
>> To your left. Look to your left.
>> What the hell, Heather? It just disappeared.
>> Do you see it? It should be just on the other side of the bridge right now.
>> I don’t see anything, but all three of my rip pods are going off.
>> Okay, I’m coming to you.
Hey, >> you found nothing over here?
>> Nothing, but all three of my rim bods went off.
>> Okay, drone is still in the air. So, let’s walk to exactly where this thing disappeared.
So So right here, anything?
>> I don’t see anything.
There are no tracks leaving the side of this trail.
>> There’s nothing here.
>> I mean, that’s impossible. How? It was as if it was sprinting at you.
>> I don’t know. But you saw that thing, it disappeared, and then all three of my rim pods went off. Maybe that’s all part of the energy of Bridgewater Triangle.
It starts as one thing and then morphs into something else.
>> You’re saying whatever I saw in the thermal drone with a heat signature transformed into whatever set off the reod.
>> You have a better explanation? I don’t yet.
